• Mergers and Acquisitions Increase in 2011

According to BtoB Media Business, mergers and acquistions increased 15% in 2011 over 2010. This merge/acquisition trend is addressed in The Curse of the Mogul: What's Wrong with the World's Leading Media Companies, by Jonathon A. Knee, Bruce C. Greenwald and Ava Seave. The book addresses how these acquisitions may not be in the best interest of shareholders, consumers, or the media companies.
The number of merger and acquisition transactions in the media and marketing industries increased to 1,409 last year, an increase of 15% over 2010, according to the “2011 Year End Merger and Acquisition Trend Report for the Media & Marketing Industry,” released by investment bank Berkery, Noyes & Co.
